About the Department

ABOUT SCHOOL OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND TRIBAL STUDIES

MA/M.Sc Anthropology has been offering by the Bastar Vishwavidyalaya (BVV) from 2008. The university, established with an aim to enhance the downtrodden communities, now it offers post-graduate programme in Anthropology and Tribal Studies.  The School of Anthropology & Tribal Studies in Bastar Vishwavidyalaya is dedicated to better understanding human cultural and biological origins and diversity through education and research. The faculty is committed to excellence in teaching and to the advancement of knowledge through local, national, and international programs of research.

 

MANDATE

The primary aim of Anthropology program it to study the origin, behavior, as well as the physical, social, and cultural development of humans throughout history and in different cultures. This study can take the form of fieldwork, academic study, research, as well as curation of collections located in universities and museums.  The traditional role of anthropologists is to do research in order to produce knowledge.  

 

  • To study of primitive culture in its present form.
  • To study of cultural contact and specific processes. This includes exploration of the influences of outer groups creating cultural changes.
  • Reconstruction of social history.
  • Search for universally valid social laws.

The two year course has been divided into four semesters which consists of theory and practical.  The students will rigorously participate in the different filed settings, Seminars, practicals, filed visits and in the final semester they have to be submitted dissertation.

ELIGIBILITY

A Candidate who has obtained Bachelor Degree in any field (BA / BSc) with minimum 45% of marks.

 

HOW TO APPLY

The admission brochure along with the admission form is available at the University office during office hours. Students may fill the form and submit it to respective School of Studies. Admission will be imparted after scrutiny of all forms on the merit basis. Reservations will be followed to SC, ST, OBC, Minorities, and women etc., categories as per the Govt. of Chhattisgarh norms.
